The Inca Pyramid in Perú (NOT Machu Picchu)
The incas are well known for Machu Picchu but there is a lot more inca fortress and citadels in Perú. But I have never seen an inca pyramid until i traveled to Ayacucho (south andes of Perú). At first sight looks like a pyramid, don't you think so?
This is the "Ushnu", a specially-constructed platform for ceremonial events. The Incas built many ushnu, they were important part of the inca architecture and they were used as potent symbols of religious and political authority. I have seen others "ushnu" in Perú but none of them looks like a pyramid. Most of them are rectangular two-level platforms. But this Ushnu has 4 levels. At the top there is a big stone chair for the inca.
This Ushnu was built in Vilcashuamán town, after the incas defeated the Chancas, one of their main rivals. During the inca period, Vilcashuaman became an important Inca administrative center.

Where is this place?
From Lima (capital of Perú), I had to travel 8 hours by bus to Ayacucho and then another 3 more hours by car. There's also flights Lima - Ayacucho (less than 1 hour).

So many great things about Peru outside of Machu Picchu. The Inca trail near Cusco that finishes at Machu Picchu is full of other Incan sites that do not get nearly as much traffic as Machu Picchu, but they are in some ways just as amazing. Like Ollantaytambo!!
