The amazing Kelingking beach and drone shots - Nusa Penida, Indonesia
Kelingking beach is Nusa Penida's most jaw dropping view. It is very popular among tourists and famous on Instagram. There's a hike that goes all the way down to the beach. It's highly recommended to do this hike early in the morning. But it's not for everyone.
Yesterday we went to the broken beach and went snorkeling at the amazing Crystal Bay (Read: A hole in the ground or an amazing beach? Broken Beach - Nusa Penida, Indonesia). Today we requested an early breakfast. Our plan is to go to kelingking beach. We want to be there before any tourists. We managed to get our breakfast at 6.30 am and left before 7 am.
The drive
The route is for a big part the same as going to broken beach. Which means that the road conditions are really terrible. Once you leave the main road that kind of goes around the Island, you are screwed. These roads are so terrible it will slow you down immensely. If you are renting a scooter like us, make sure that you have 2 good functioning breaks. You will need them.
The total drive is about 40 minutes from our homestay. This really is not too shabby if you ask me. And waking up early really pays off. When we arrive there is not a single scooter parked. There was a little group at the top to take pictures and that's it. None of them wanted to go down to the beach, but we will.
Kelingking beach
Out first impressions of the beach were just jaw dropping wow! It is so amazing and beautiful! I am so glad that we came this early, it just makes you feel great. The water is so blue, the mountain is so high and the view over the cliffs are amazing. It is such a stunning view! This ranks really high! But nothing has beaten the view of Phu Chi Fa yet!
Here's our first view of Kelingking beach. Isn't is stunning? I use this time to take out my drone and start flying. The shots I got are just jaw dropping stunning! it's such a great start of our day.
The hike down
After those amazing drone shots it is time to make the hike down. There are also some monkeys on the top, but non of them are aggressive. They seemed to enjoy posing for pictures tho. However i was too busy flying my drone for that. Mystery girl spent a lot of time taking pictures of the monkeys tho ?.
The hike down is really really intense. It had rained last night, which made the path a little bit slippery. It wasn't the easiest hike down. A lot of parts are really steep. Luckily there are wooden railing to the side everywhere. So you can hold on to them while you are hiking down.
Many parts are so steep it's almost like you are climbing. Specially the last bit is really steep.
We made it!
After what seemed like an eternal climb down, we made it to the bottom! Whoah! What a relief. The feeling of making it to the bottom is so amazing! You forget everything about the hassle in an instant. All you can think is how much worth it it really is.
The ocean is really intense here. Very few people go swimming here and I suggest you do not swim here! Only if you are experienced with high waves and rip currents you can. Once you passed the waves, the ocean will pull you back. There's a rip current and it is very hard to go back to shore. You will be extremely tired! Please take my advice, it is not the place for a leisure swim!
Time to go back
We spent a lot of time on the beach. It was really relaxing and fun! There was barely anyone here. I saw some people on flip flops! So if you are scared you will not make the hike, remember that people do it on freaking flip-flops!
The hike up is easier than going down, but it requires cardio. The reason for this is that when you hike up, you have a lot more stability. Everything is less slippery while going up and you have more control over your feet placements.
We wanted to stay longer at the beach, but have to check out today in our hotel. We are going back to Ubud, Bali. There are a lot more people doing the hike down now. I'm so glad we came this early! The lighting was amazing for the drone pictures and we had the whole hike for ourselves. We saw very few people at the beach while we were down there.
Tomorrow is already the final day of Mystery girl in Bali ?. I'm a bit sad that she leaves, but on the other hand. I have a lot of work to do and I didn't have the time to go through it. So having some days for myself will be ideal now! I hope to see you all in my next post :)
