Shalban Vihar at Comilla
Mainamati is the home of one of the most important Buddhist archaeological sites in Bangladesh. It’s located about 8 km to the west of Comilla town at Chittagong Division in Bangladesh. Also Mainamati, an ancient seat of Buddhism in south Asia. There are 4 walls surrounding of Shalban Vihar of Mainamati .
The total amount of room is 115 in which the Buddhist monks studied and observed religious practices. There was only one door in north side. There are many ancient ruins like- Charpatra Mura, Boiragir Mura, Kotila Mura, etc. Beside of the Moinamoti of which all are Buddhist Viharas or temples.
Many ancient artifact like- ancient armors, copper-plates, coins, jewelries, bronze statues, burned clay-plates etc, found in Shalban Vihar. In Shalbon Bihar widest parts, the ridge is about 4.5 km across and its highest peaks attain a height of about 45 metres. where the Northern part is called Moinamoti and the Southern part is called Lalmai; and Shalbon Bihar is in the Middle of Lalmai and Moinamoti, there are a series of hills.
Mainamati is named for the Candra queen of the same name, mother of the Govindachandra. Which was founded by King Buddadev . In the eighth century. It’s is located about 114 km. from Dhaka to Kumilla. Dhaka is the capital city of Bangladesh.
