Ireland Mini Trip - #3

The Guardian

Plus other shipwrecks.

On our wanders across the North-Westerly beaches of The Republic of Ireland we came across these three abandoned and rotting boats. They were all in various states of disrepair and had clearly been left for dead for many years as the rot and weeds which had engulfed all three was well set-in.

Two of the boats' names had been badly worn off, with the remaining vessel, The Guardian, having the only legible sign. I found this name quite interesting and began to imagine these ships' time at sea and wondered if they set sail as a trio, each with different tasks. The colours and shapes created by these decrepit structures was also somewhat magical against the dune, sea and glen backdrop so I had to make my way across the bay to get some photographs. I hope you enjoy!

(Image: The red and white colour scheme of the central boat contrasted with the other two. I wonder if this symbolised a different use or purpose for the vessel compared to its counterparts.)

(Image: The front of the hull for the Guardian remains largely intact, however, there are also some large gaping wounds down each side of the boat.)

(Image: The dry and wet rot decay has affected both inner and outer skins of the boat. I think its safe to say she will never sail again!)

Thanks for taking a look, and again keep watch for more updates from our adventures in Ireland!

Cheers!
