Travel Pic of the Day #25: Smoggy afternoons in Shanghai
Smoggy Afternoons in Shanghai
Shanghai, China
Back in 2013 I was based out of Shanghai China. It was one of the hottest summers in decades, with temperatures sticking above 38 Celsius for more that 35days straight. Making the run from my aircon apartment to the aircon subway without breaking to getting soaked in sweat was part of the daily challenge.
The smog was also at a high back then, with pollution numbers exceeding all scales. This view from my apartment shows what that looks like, on bad days the veil of smog was so dense you could hardly locate the sun!
Luckily China is tackling the problem, lead by the communities in the tech-driven Shenzhen region.

Did you actually take this, or found it on the web?
Took it myself, from my apartment.
it seems like it became a common happenstance in that highly urbanized city.
Good shot you got there by the way
That smog is so thick! WOW!

It looks intimidating: (. I wonder if the situation has changed now, after 5 years. It must be very dangerous . If it wasn't for this one, Your window would have a beautiful view.
Very true, on good days the view was very nice indeed, Shanghai is a great city! Public focus has been on the environmental situation now for a couple of years and government is taking steps. So lets hope it significantly clears up.
@azonneveld, Thanks for your reply. It is really very sad to have such a city and not see most of its beautiful scenery
Great dystopic picture but indeed, how poisonous.
yes really is, huge problem there, weird to not be able to go outside and enjoy the fresh air
you are really a real photo traveller
thanks @anik007!
