Philippines was discovered by Magellan on March 15, 1521.The arrival of portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 began a period of Spanish exploration and colonization.Philippines was named after King Philip II of Spain.Currently the archipelagic republic of the Philippines is divided into 17 regions(16 administrative and 1 autonomous).

The name "CEBU" comes from the old Cebuano word sibu or sibo (meaning "trade"),a shortened form of sinibuayng yawa ("the place for trading").
