Bolaven Plateau Road Trip: the Second Waterfall on the Coldest Day
That day started pretty well - it wasn't raining in the morning and we set off for the next waterfall.
On our way we saw lots of piles of pineapples for sale. It must have been the pineapple season! And they were the tastiest and sweetest pineapples we ever tried 😋
We reached Tad Lo waterfall before noon, I'm pretty sure we took a wrong turn somewhere because it looked different on pictures that I saw before... So we arrived here:
A short walk between trees and we reached this small stream with a shaky wooden bridge, that looked more like a horizontal ladder:
I'm really not sure if this was really Tad Lo, or if Tad Lo is 500 meters after this one...
But it looked really pretty anyway! :)
There's quite a lot of homestays near Tad Lo, we visited one of them to have lunch - the usual chicken rice, which was quite tasty, and the portiones were big!
Saw a couple of happy kids on a bicycle. All the people on Bolawen plateau are so nice!
Then we continued driving around the plateau, there was quite a long way to the next little town called Paksong, where we were going to stay for the night. Paksong was also the highest point of our trip. It got colder the higher we went, and then it started to rain when we were passing some rice fields.
These guys offered us to wait until the rain stops in their little wooden shelter. They didn't really speak English but were so nice to us.
Later we reached a beautiful temple and saw a young monk. All the buddhist temples are so unique and colorful! They make even the rainiest day brighter!
I have read that Buddhism in Laos is often closely tied to animist beliefs and belief in ancestral spirits, particularly in rural areas. And we saw that ourselves - Mr Vieng from my previous post had animism believes just like all the people in his village. And here's buddhists, just a few kilometeres away from that place!
We reached Paksong by the end of the day and it got really cold, I was trying to make us warmer by hugging Artur from the backseat of our motorbike. Then we rented a room without hot water - normally cold water in Asia has almost room temperature, but this time it was as cold as ice! Or at least it felt like that. 😝
So I tried to acclimate myself to the cold with that ice shower and then ran to bed and curled up with blanket. 😅
We covered most of the loop by this time and the next day promised to be the best one - we were going to descent back into warmth and see two most impressive waterfalls on the plateau!
All photos taken with Canon 550d 😊
Stay tuned for more!
