HOW IT ALL BEGAN…

Rosco was on some days off with companions in 1988 kayaking down the Hollyford River into Lake McKerrow and out to Martins Bay, with the arrangement of paddling along the drift on the Tasman Sea and into Milford Sound. In the wake of sitting tight for 2 days at Martins Bay for the 4-meter swell to ease, it was a simple oar down the drift and into Milford. The last 16km saw Rosco and his companions paddling the distance into the sound escorted by a unit of 30 bottlenose dolphins. This critical excursion planted the seed for setting up Milford's first business ocean kayaking activity.

Today, more than two decades later, Rosco has the longest-serving proprietor worked ocean kayaking business in New Zealand.
