My recent trip to Italian winery - AWESOME!

in #travel7 years ago

On my recent trip to Italy a month or so ago, I have visited a few vineries in the Piedmont area around the village of Barolo, which is a small village with a castle and a population of around 1000 people.

We have visited a nice family friendly winery located some 15 minutes drive from the village. The place is called Demarie and is worth a visit if you are in the area.

We've emailed a few days in advance to arrange a visit and they've showed us around, done the wine tasting and told us how the wine is made there. We were surprised to learn that about six years ago they have sold a lot of their modern equipment to go back to more traditional way of making wine. Less quantity but better quality. They are also in the process of obtaining Organic certification. The best way in my opinion when it comes to wine, well done guys! They produce around 150K-200K bottles a hear of about a dozen of different types of wine, including Barolo, Barbaresco, some white and sparkling wines too.

Next on todo list is white truffle quest with the locals. Perhaps a trip for next year, who knows...
