Visit to Dubrovnik's Feast of St Blaise
Hello dear steemit friends!
After a couple of days I go back to writing blog, this post is dedicated to my visit to Dubrovnik's Feast of St Blaise. I have great traveling experience to share with you. My friends and I went for 2 days in Dubrovnik on Saturday and Sunday :)
First day we came to the exact opening of the feast. Rainfall was raining while the mass lasted. There were few people but they quickly filled out. What was strange was that immediately after the masses of rain stopped falling and the sun came out and the opening procession began.
In the opening process participated numerous inclusion of Dubrovnik folk soldiers, gentlemens, and others folk authentic peoples (also a lot of people were dressed in folk costumes).
After the opening procession, we went for a walk through the walls of Dubrovnik. The walls are about 3 kilometers long and it takes an hour to surround them. There was also an opportunity to take photo of beautiful scenes.
On the second day early in the morning we went to a mountain srđ that is 412 meters high and is located just above Dubrovnik. the cable car did not work so we went by car.
After that, we went down to the city again and visited the city sights.
Most of the sights are on the main street or square called Stradun that has the shape of the letter L.
One of the most important buildings is the palace Sponza in which many documents, letters ... are included, including all the Balkan countries. also in books dubrovnik as the name was first mentioned in 1189. year. The palace was built in a mixed style of the Gothic and Renaissance.
Something about the cathedrala and church:
it was demolished in a great earthquake in 1667, and 200 people were killed. while it was being renovated, the church of St. Blaise was used as a cathedral, but after 40 years the church was burned, so the Dubrovcians urgently needed a new cathedral and for its construction brought the sculptor Marina Gropelli. The only thing that survived the fire was the statue of St. Blaise, and at the same time the church was named after him. on the roof of the church there are two statues of saints, one represents hope, and another one faith!
Inside the church there is an original altar that was made in the genus and was delivered to Dubrovnik by the way, it was returned last year after 5 years of negotiations.
In front of the church there is an orland pier which is a symbol of free trade which in history was important for Dubrovnik.
What is also interesting for the Onofrio Fountain that reaches the water over a mountain srđ 12 km away. the canals for water supply were in the 15th century and the town then had potable water.
The town bell tower has two statues that each bell rings a clock. also has a month shift display. what is interesting is that the clock never stopped except on December 6, 1991 when, due to major attacks in the war, the key of the bell tower was damaged and the clock could not set that day.
The prince's court is the place where a knight of Dubrovnik who had a mandate of only a month had been crowned. it was also dropped in a great earthquake. the prince didn't survive the earthquake. it was later renovated in baroque style.
After the tour of the city, at noon the celebration was completed by removing the flag of St. vlahe and putting the flag of the republic of croatia. As well as at the opening there were many people, including the popular soldiers (Trombunjeri), Dubrovnik gentlemans (Gospari)...
Finally, I caught the time for coffee and a walk on the waterfront where I caught with camera beautiful waves, unfortunately one caught me too...
Unfortunately, time has come to go home, but there is a lot of nice memories I've shared with you and I hope you like it :)))
Greetings from @amw (rocky7), till next time!
