The Bruce and the wonderful coast of San Juan, Siquijor
I wanted to write about our entire trip in Siquijor but I am pretty sure that our daughter Johanna Gail (@gailbelga) was able to present the entirety of our travel in a wonderful way. My!
Anyway, my husband and I will show to you the wonderful coast of Siquijor and the nice place where we checked in.
We have always wanted to experience a bit of luxury while saving some amount of money during our vacation in Siquijor so we asked Manong Noynoy if he could recommend a place to us. Luckily, the people in Siquijor knows a lot of wonderful places to stay to with cheap prices. He brought us to The Bruce.
The Bruce can be found at San Juan, Siquijor. It is owned by a foreigner and named it after his brother Bruce who died from an airplane crash. He fell in love with the place and it reminded him a lot of wonderful memories with his brother while he was still alive.
It was the first place we asked about and my family fell in love with it. We only paid Php2,200 for a night stay. I must say, it was wise decision.
This was our cottage by the way. It is actually pretty big for the price. It can be found along the coast. There are also other cottages that were rented by foreign tourist, mostly by Europeans.
Let us have a quick tour of our cottage!
There are bamboo chairs and tables on the veranda or terrace of the beach. Aside from that, there is also a dinning table and chairs. You could certainly relax while eating.
And why would they put a dinning table and chairs if you are not allowed to cook? Oh well, they will provide it for you. There is already a fridge, kitchen sink, eating and other cooking utensils, and LPG stove/ burner.
We are just very thankful that we could cook. Instead of dining in restaurants and spending a lot on it, we were able to save a lot of money by buying food from the local market and sari-sari stores (small shops that sell necessary things for cooking, doing laundry, and bathing).
There is a huge ceiling fan and fans inside for every bed. No need for aircondition right? Anyway, you are here for an amazing island-life experience.
There are two big beds seperated by a cabinet. The cabinet is also very functional. If you have lots of stuff with you, you are free to use it.
The bathroom (which I do not have a photos of it) is very clean. It has a shower and toilet bowl. The temperature of the shower can be changed from hot, a bit hot, cold, and very cold.
Alfredo seemed to be very relaxed while taking calls from work. Oh well.
It is not just the cottage that fascinated us but the beach as well. There were a lot of resorts near our place and each of it is very unique. The Bruce for one was able to capture our hearts.
The open cottage in front of the beach is an ideal place to chit-chat with family and friends. There are also kayaks that can be used by guests anytime of the day. Well, except of you plan to go kayaking at night. It is just pretty dark since there are no lamp or light posts.
The beach chairs are lit as how youngsters call it.
The place also has internet connection but I suggest you stay near the bird's house because that is where the wifi router can be found.
The displayed hammocks were able to add the perfect island vibe. What more could I ask for?
We were able to have a tour on some of the popular spots of Siquijor in just one day and few hours before we head back to mainland Dumaguete, we spent sometime with the locals. My husband already shared to you our Swaki experience right? If you have not read it, you can check it our here: https://steemit.com/travel/@alfredotongco/appetizer-for-free-swaki-sea-urchin
We really had a great time strolling around the beach. It felt like my husband and I were having a honeymoon. Well, except for the fact that our kids were around.
I am so ready to get my feet dirty!
My son Jose and Kenneth (my future son-in-law) were enjoying the view. @gailbelga is not found in the photos because she was not feeling alright at that moment.
On the nearby resort, it is named Glamping cause people can go camping in a glamourous way. Well, I just made it up. But on a serious note, it was named Glamping resort where tents are displayed and can be used by clients.
We really wanted to go swimming but unfortunately, the tide is low. You can see it here actually:
It was really muddy. My son Jose even got stuck on a foot deep mud. My husband and I then decided to go swimming on the swimming pool instead at The Bruce. The pool is nice and situated adjacent on the owner's villa.
How do you find The Bruce? Would you recommend it to your friends? Would you love to stay here for a vacation? Do you find the idea of living near foreigners nice? Share your thoughts! 😊
Love,
Dahlia and Alfredo
I am happy you enjoyed our stayed at THE BRUCE.
