Coorg & its Culture.
Coorg/Kodagu is the least populous district in the state of Karnataka located on the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats!
The customs and traditions of the Coorgi people are quite different from other Indians and I say that from experience, their hospitality is just wonderful with the amount of respect they have towards people!
The British who colonized Coorg, set up coffee plantations during their time, often compared Coorg to Scotland as both the places had grand and regal highlands with a sturdy mountain-dwelling race.
The Coorgs are worshippers of nature and women are given immense respect in this society: a mother is held in the highest regard! Another surprising thing is that their language does not have words for dowry a common practice in Indians which has reduced a lot in this era or prostitution which seems to be absent from their society! Women in this society are mostly found to be educated and know their rights which is obviously because of their culture of appreciating women!
Coorg Attractions
Abbey Falls
This falls is even better in the monsoon season! Located in the Western Ghats approximately 268 kms from Bangalore! It has private coffee estates and pepper estates on both sides! This place was first well known by the name Jessi falls after a British officer's wife but then later on changed to Abbey falls!
Madikeri Fort
The fort and the palace inside was made in the 2nd half of the 17th century by Mudduraja and the British added to it in 1834. St. Marks Church mentioned at the beginning of this article is located inside the fort and was raised in 1859 by the officers and men of the East India Company.
Raja Seat Mantapa

The Garden is one-time-favorites of Kings of Coorg who used to watch sunsets and spend time with their queens here! It is a seasonal garden of flowers and artificial fountains and one of the famous tourist attractions in the district! The early misty morning and the setting sun is what people go there for!
Iruppu Falls
This falls is a breathtaking sight in the monsoon season especially and that is when mostly the tourist flock in! There begins a forest trail that takes you all the way to Brahmagiri Peak in southern part of Coorg!
