Self Portrait - 100% TOURIST - What Is This Sunlight You Speak Of
I recently stumbled upon this picture as I have been trying to consolidate and structure all my digital photo's. I seem to have subconsciously put this off for many years, but as a new Steemian I want to share my adventures: past, present, and future.
A few days ago I posted a picture of my wife in front of the Catalina Casino. This is another picture from our trip to Avalon, on Catalina Island.
Right after our arrival to Avalon we were greeted with a plethora of street vendors and small shops that sold everything from sunglasses to sunscreen to the eager tourists. My wife, an avid shopper extraordinaire, set out to concur the small shops and buy souvenirs and gifts for friends and family.
I was an incredibly hot day, with minimal cloud screen that enhanced the sun burning into my retina. As we passed the hat and sunglasses stall. I decided it would be a great time for a touristy self portrait and stopped for a minute to capture this moment.
Up until today, I don't think I have stopped and reflected on this photo. Coming from a place, Anchorage Alaska, that doesn't receive sunlight being down on you from above I often make the weirdest faces when I get sunlight in my eyes. The temperature also never makes it over 75f, even on the hottest days in July.
Here in Anchorage, we receive a large number of tourists in the summer months. You can tell they are tourists as everyone is wearing pants, jackets, and gloves in the mornings, as it is naturally in the low 50's before noon. This is what I am used to and I thoroughly enjoy the weather here.
The look on my face is 100% tourist, 100% not prepared for the climate, 100% get me in some shade.
Minutes after taking this picture we moved on to a fantastic southern Cali-mexican restaurant that was to die for. They have a shortage of water on the island, so we were forced to drink margaritas and beer all day. No worries to me as I am an avid beer drinker.
At the end of the day, locals can always spot the tourist, and this portrait SCREAMS Tourist!
nice one !
HAHA!!
