CAMERON HIGHLANDS, MALAYSIA - THE LAND OF TEA
#3
Hello everyone!
... from the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, we took a 5 hour bus ride north. It lead us from from the sea level, up into the highlands, which lay from around 1100m(3600ft) to 1600m(5200ft). The road is not from the feeble of stomach, but I really enjoyed it. The road was very steep and narrow, which required constant honking of the bus driver before every corner. The road as curvy as a snake crawling through the jungle. Which is funny because the road was surrounded by a whole lot of jungle and big valleys and beautiful views! Every now and then you would get surprised by the sight of stray dogs or monkeys by the side of the road, scavenging for leftovers in the garbage.
It was definitely a very interesting ride! I hope I can paint a mental picture with some pictures :) :
Upon arriving there, we asked for directions to our hostel of choice in the tourist information centre, which was right by the drop off. So thats what we did!, we went to the hostel, which is like a backpackers hostel, so there was loads of people doing similar routs and trips to ourselves. Unfortunately the name of the hostel currently eludes my mind, but it doesn't matter.
We met a whole bunch of backpackers. Many of them we left behind or split with, but many of them we made great friendships with, which led to amazing adventures later on :).
The cameron highlands are a PERFECT location to spend a WEEKEND in. Its known as the land of tea, because of the amazing tea plantations. If you're there you will surely go check out the tea plantations, and of corse drink some :). Its also home to the largest flower in the world: The Rafflesia, and the worlds oldest rainforest as well as many hiking trails and just nature in general.
It pays off to ask your hostel owner for the best guided tour deal :).
Now that I've talked a bit about it, check out some pics and moments :
These three are from the plantations
