The fort of Daulatabad is situated in Daulatabad(Which is also known as Devagiri) town of Maharashtra, India. This fort is built by cutting an entire mountain and is in Conical shape which is about of 200 meters of height from the ground. This was never the actual shape of the FORT but was man made to restrict enemies from the fort. It was founded by Yadavs of Devagiri in 11th century AD under king Bhillama.

Major attractions of the fort:

Cannons:

When one enters the fort, the first thing a person sees is a number of different cannons which seems like having different capacities and ranges. These were the major weapons of that time to prevent invasion of the palace.

In-carvings:

At the entrance to the main fort, one starts seeing the in-carving. There are in-carved of elephants on both sides of the inner entrance gate which resembles the strength and pride. And inside the fort, there are many other carvings, some of which resembles like Buddha in the meditation position. As many of the pillars are in the open sky, so, the real art is being demolished by the time.

Defence system

• This fort was built to 200 m height from the ground and was one of the most powerful forts of that time. The defense system consisted of moats and three encircling fortification walls with the huge size of gates at regular intervals.
• This fort has one entry/exit, so, it was difficult for enemies to get out of the fort once they drive deep into the fort.
• Conical shape of the hill prevented enemies climbing like wizards to the fort
• Spikes at the gates and walls made it difficult for unwanted people to invade the fort.
  
  
  

Beautiful gardens:

The fort has multiple small/medium sized gardens within the fort at various intervals. These beautiful gardens are even present on the roofs and at big heights of the fort as well. These are still maintained by ASI(Archeological Survey of India).

Bharat Mata temple:

The fort of Daulatabad premises also has a "Bharat Mata" temple with big open verandah(an open area) in front of it which has many small pillars with beautiful in-carvings

The dark passage(Andheri)

This is the most interesting part of this fort and almost a non invade-able part of the fort. This passage was the media to connect the lower and the upper of the fort. This dark passage was like a tunnel with stairs in a spiral shape. And these stairs were different in sizes, width, and shapes to confuse an unknown entrant to this place. And the passage is too small to get a large number of people to citadel or from citadel to lower part of the fort. This was one the strangest and best defense of that time.

The nearest big city to Daultabad is Aurangabad. Once a person reaches to Aurangabad, one can take a personal/private taxi/autos to Daultabad which is about 13 Kms from Aurangabad.
