SMART TRANSPORTATION AND AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES Could be the future IoT
Vehicles and transportation systems have evolved into smart entities with sensing, autonomous and automatic capabilities within smart cities due to digital devices, ubiquitous computing and integration of physical resources and interconnection of devices.
This article aims to survey the current and proposed practices for smart transportation and autonomous via extravehicular communication. For the purposes of transportation we will be discussing Intelligent Vehicle Grids, coordinated parking and Traffic Management Systems (TMSs) such as TIC (Traffic Information Centre).
As per the case of Internet of Things and vehicles we will be looking into data centers for vehicles supported on Autonomous Vehicular Clouds (AVCs), Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), and also examine a possible Social Internet of Vehicles (SIoV) to assess autonomous vehicular movement as well as interaction between humans and driven vehicles. Introduction Intelligent Transportation Systems are a relatively new field of study with research focused on the various modes of transportation and traffic management. The aim is to maximize road safety, coordinate the traffic management efforts and optimize the utility of transport networks within the city. Additionally, this field encompasses all modes of transportation and mobility management.
The mobility referred to herein is of vehicles on the road, traffic systems and autonomous systems as part of the road transport. The technologies involved in the evolution and implementation of an intelligent transport system include car navigations, GPRS, wireless sensor communication in an intra-vehicular network, traffic signal control systems and IoTs deployed on roads to monitor vehicular traffic.
The basic premise of the study is to integrate live data from roads with feedback from information systems, and to source drivers and autonomous vehicles with relevant guidance. We will be looking at the recent development in studies of analytics of traffic flow, easing the potential for road accidents, developing predictive models for vehicles and technologies employed in better parts of European smart cities. Vehicular identification, triangulation of data, traffic monitoring and smartphone/ smart application based monitoring of vehicles have been proposed as elements of ubiquitous computing, vehicular clouds and sensing technologies. With lots of different video, audio, Bluetooth and other sensing technologies, it has now become possible to determine traffic states and predict traffic behavior with maximum accuracy and there are many applications for co-operative systems on the road. These cooperative systems are used to enforce road safety regulations , speed limits, anomalies, traffic light management, collision avoidance and other cooperative systems on the road and parking .
