The Pull Up #3 - Manudigital - 'Bass Attack'
3rd Edition
November 2nd 2018
Manudigital
"Bass Attack"
A little obscurely known, though well-known in the Reggae community, Manudigital has worked with a plethora of Reggae, Digital, and Dancehall artists from around the world in his sixteen-year career including Bounty Hunter, Joseph Cotton, Beenie Man, Alborosie, Soom T and Solo Banton. He is also one of my favorite Bass Music producers after DJ Vadim so I wanted to showcase him for this edition of The Pull Up. This might be a short write up as he seems to be a very private individual, not even a Wikipedia page about him, but I'll try my best to squeeze out as much information as I can through interviews and bios.
Despite my digging around the internet, I can't seem to find out what Manudigital's real name is, but he comes from a family of musicians from France. He was born on September 9, 1981 (according to his Facebook fan page) and is a riddim-maker, music producer and a bass player. He started playing the bass guitar at the age of thirteen backed by his two guitarist brothers and in 1994 he had joined his first Reggae band 'Jharmony' and after joining several other groups and studying at the American School of Modern Music in Paris, he discovered a love for Jamaican culture and for digital equipment as he began to build his own sound system 'Digital Sound'.
In 2010, he became joined the internationally acclaimed band 'Babylon Circus' as their bassist and he toured 25 countries with them as part of the 'Belle Etoile' tour. By 2012, he had established himself as a riddim-maker (or composer) and producer and has released three solo albums to date plus one compilation album with Joseph Cotton. He has also make a few a couple web series with several artists he's worked with in the past, namely Back Inna Days and Digital Sessions.
Manudigital x Capleton Digital Session in Kingston, Jamaica'Bass Attack' is the name of Manudigital's third album released on October 5, 2018. It has fourteen tracks totaling at fifty-three minutes long. Just like the DJ Vadim album I reviewed previously, Manudigital has a large collection of influential Reggae and Dancehall deejays and emcees filling up the vocals spaces on the brilliant beats. Artists such as Skarra Mucci, Soom T, Taiwan MC, Ed Solo and Panda Dub to name a handful. I had previously heard and owned a few of the tracks which I have DJ-ed at several events which led me to believe the album is older than it actually is.
I am absolutely impressed with the overall quality and production on this album. It really does feel like a Bass Attack! Easily switching from Dub to Reggae to Dancehall to Steppers, there isn't a single boring song on this project. Notable songs are the easy-sounding first track 'Ruff It Up', the speedy Dancehall 'Rock This World', the Digital Reggae 'Herb Inna Mi Pocket' and the Reggae 'Reach the Sky' featuring Taiwan MC boasting his favorite herb to smoke! All-around good vibes for this one, perfect for any situation, really, nothing but positive things to say about Bass Attack! Boom!
Thank you for reading and supporting! If there is any album you would like me to cover for The Pull Up, please leave a comment below! One Love!
