"Island of Dreams" or "Island of Fresh Life"
Island of Dreams all descriptions of Djerba were correct, and they were numerous. It is Mediterranean and desert at the same time, and there are no differences in describing its atmosphere in the singular. An atmosphere shared by Zarzis and her neighbor on the continent. But Djerba is also an island of resorts, clubs and outdoor activities, discovering the unique heritage ... and trips to the wonderful natural landscapes of the desert. A visit to the promenade, because of the harmony between the natural beauty of the landscape and the traditional architecture of whiteness and roundness: ancient buildings, small mosques, A large rural village called the Houses. Going to the Djerba Express Park, you can see the rural life of the island through paintings that were inspired by reality. In the same park there is a crocodile farm where you can continue to feed and identify them
. In Houmt Souk, tour the fishing port and the roofed market where fish sale auctions. Do not miss visiting the village of Riyadh, where one of the oldest synagogues in the world, the "exotic". Also in Riyadh is the live museum of street art, Djerba Hood, where the traditional architecture of the graffiti artists from all over the world has been amazingly taken by the Tunisian artist, the master of Arabic calligraphy. In the village of Qala, a visit to the two pottery makers who make a tractor as old as before, take them down to the underground clay field and enjoy their skills and craftsmanship. It is not excluded when roaming the narrow roads and sand paths in Djerba, to show you an old house. High walls, triangular towers, arches and domes ... These rural houses are the characteristics of the architecture of the island. An architecture that draws its beauty from its simplicity. Around each house, a farm provides the family with its basic needs, well and olives as well as well-irrigated vegetables through a network of small canals. Numerous homes are around Midoun, the second city in Djerba. While the main town, Houmt Souk, is characterized by its hotels, which are old cabins where traders' convoys stopped. Its spacious courtyards, surrounded by white limestone corridors, have now made them decorate a hostel or stay for young people, or restaurants. Unique places to stop on what life was like in Djerba
