Travelling to Turkey - is it safe?

a quick assessment about travelling to Turkey from an insider.

Generally travelling to Turkey is not unsafe and a good valuefor your money compared to other european mediterranian countries. Although the state of emergency has been extended by the government, you will be safe in touristic places as the income from tourism is very important for Turkey. So at the western coast and cities as Istanbul or Izmir has the same danger as in other european countries. The situation on the south eastern part of Turkey is a bit different, especially when you get close to the syrian and iraqi border.

If you are considering a holiday at the seaside just for relaxing and a bit of sightseeing is surely ok and you should not be afraid of terrorist attacks. Statistically the danger is not higher than in Brussels or London or Paris.

What you might wanna consider is, if supporting Turkeys regime by bringing foreign currency to the country is a good decision. Looking at the democratic situation and the illiberale regime, a visit does not seem a rational decision, although Turkey is a beautiful and comparatively cheap country.
On the other hand keep in mind that only app. 50% are supporting the regime and it might make sense to support those other 50%.
This is a question everyone has to answer himself.
Personally I decided to support the other 50% and enjoyed my trips a lot. If you get the chance to talk to those people, you will understand what the go through and get a better insight of the situation in Turkey.
