It was originally an outdoor tin mining station that was established in 1800 on the junction of the Gombak River with the Klang River. Kuala Lumpur is known today as a modern city full of activity and is the capital of the Federal Republic of Malaysia and the main centre of trade, politics, entertainment and global activities.

Tourists flock to the old parts of Kuala Lumpur in large numbers to visit Sultan Abdul Samad Palace and Tahrir Square, where the British flag was lowered on August 31, 1957, and raised the Malaysian flag declaring the country's independence.

The continually renewed Kuala Lumpur skyline shines at Petronas (the twin towers), the highest in the world with a height of 452 meters distributed among 88 floors. The city of Kuala Lumpur has a modern transportation network including light rail and monorail, which is now under construction to facilitate transportation.

Although Kuala Lumpur has become a modern city, it still retains its ancient charm. This is evident in the huge colonial-era buildings, pre-war shops and in the way of doing business. Kuala Lumpur's most prominent feature is the large garden atmosphere that dominates it.

The city boasts many parks, such as lakeside gardens covered with hibiscus, lizards, birds, deer and butterflies, as well as many other beautiful places, and lovers of history and archaeology can find them in the National Museum and many other specialized museums.

It is also a great place to shop for multiple shopping malls, for example on Bukit Pitang Street, Netco Abdulrahman Street, Ampang Street, and shopping malls like Central Market. The Chinese commercial centre, which attracts people for its diverse merchandise at affordable prices, is also filled with nightlife and entertainment through western and local theatres, cultural evenings, and even golf at night on the outskirts of the city.
