Torture, how evil is the USA?
Torture is ongoing in GITMO, the use of the most vile forms of torture has found a foot hold in the USA. It's entirely likely that it has been ongoing for decades, and that governmental and media interests have hidden this from public view.
Our ability to hold government accountable is largely based on our ability to see the wrong doing of our leaders. Sadly in our media landscape there is very little journalism around the dangers presented by extreme violence in prisons.
Outside of the USA we see our policy forcing anal trauma on suspect. They physically shove enormous tubes up the butts of suspects to force confessions. These forced confessions are NOT admissible as evidence, because tortured individuals will say anything to bring their torture to an end.
Among the known "black sites" is one state side torture prison. Known as Homan Square this Chicago based prison was hidden by the police, prosecutors and judges who were well aware that human rights violations were carried out in secret. Media cowardice kept this prison open, and allowed Chicago police to secretly torture people, primarily people of color.
Our nation's soldiers also engaged in torture and murder in Iraq. The notorious prison known as Abu Ghraib was the center of murders and torture in Iraq for decades by Iraqi government until the exact same behaviors were taken over by the USAs assets including CIA agents and private contractors.
Despite the fact that torture is a crime, both domestically and internationally there were no arrests as a result of the torture carried out both inside and outside of the USA.
Now under Despot Don it has become increasingly likely that these tactics will be carried out on USAians by fellow USAians. After all the current ICE raids have already incarcerated and DEPORTED USA citizens. So it's easy to imagine that further violence and torture could be carried out under 45th POTUS. When we look at the companies which financed the election of trimp, we find the likes of Geo group, and Core civic. Two companies which have been directly involved in human rights violations around the world, even here in the USA. These two companies stand to profit enormously from police state tactics, including torture.
For many here in the USA this blog may seem like far fetched propaganda. In my opinion this is because of media cowardice. The people of the USA are denied access to free and fair reporting, even "our" public radio stations toe the state sponsored line. Preserving national security has become more important than addressing the facts associated with our rush to authoritarianism.
It is my opinion that our comfort has insulated us from the harms carried out in our name and with the direct aid of our government. Until we are personally faced with the potential of being tortured ourselves, we are willing to justify our apathy towards human rights violations by the USA government. We may not be accountable for these human rights violations individually, but our collective apathy makes us culpable.
