Calling All Tool Nerds! WTF Is This? - #1

in #tools5 years ago

I'm doing a major overhaul of our garage, organizing our tools,
and getting all the parts and pieces in order.

I'm sorting through and compartmentalizing
all the little things that contribute to a
comprehensive workshop.
The toughest part is finding tools, parts of tools
or other household items
that leave me questioning "What the Fuck Is This?"

So I'm putting out the call to all the Tool Nerds to help me identify a plethora of treasures.
I'll give you several different angles and size comparison of many items
in several of these posts, and if you recognize it,
please tell me:

1.  what it is

2.  what it's good for

3.  if it still looks useable

The white plastic moves freely up and down the screw.
The screw is removable.
The screw does not fit into the hole of the larger silver piece
(shown here without a screw).

Thank for you for helping me identify these seemingly random pieces!

More to come!

i love these kinds of challenges!

it looks to me like something to clamp glass down.. maybe a fancy glass table top?
xx congrats on the clean up!

Oh so glad you do. I have lots of these random things to manage. Would greatly appreciate your assistance.

They do feel like they has some sort of household use as they aren't built super touch like something that could withstand tough usage. Hmmm....a fancy glass table top. Maybe I should just make one and put them to use!

Glad you're here @eco-alex.

Looks like could be used as some kind of fastener.
Could it be a piece of wood with hole(s) where the plastic part can slot through and fasten to something. Maybe another piece of wood.

As if the plastic thing is the divider between the pieces of wood. Ok. I can see that. What do you think of the piece without the screw?

Glad to have you here again @ace108.

Maybe it's just a candle holder. haha.. or used as a metal base for a wooden leg.

Hahahaha--candle holder---like for a birthday candle! These do feel like a something to be used with furniture. Maybe a flimsy something that can't take too much weight.

Then maybe it's a paper weight. :-)

Perhaps weight is a good thing to share. Thanks for bringing that up. I thought about it, but now it feels relevant.. These are super light weight--they'd make a poor paper weight.

This is on OUR list of TO-doing for certain: organize garage and sort out the random of tools and bits and bobs. Good job.

This will be quite a task for sure. A worthy endeavor, however. The donations here bring all kinds of interesting bits. I hope you enjoy doing yours @donnadavisart.

Oh! That’s a fun game. Looks like it could be a fastener that attaches blinds to a track? Or a curtain to a track? Possibly?

Hey @michaelmcermott!!!! This is a fun game. Hopefully it will work beneficially to eliminate a lot of stuff from the garage!

A usage with a curtain--interesting thought. It is delicate enough for something fine like that. I don't have anything curtain in the house it belongs to, but we get a lot of donations of random things. Great guess!

Thanks! Yeah, or vertical blinds I was thinking. Lots of donations! I guess a good question is also, how can these things be re-purposed!!

Aha! The never ending question. It matters not what it has been, but what could they become. Grateful that so many of the oddities can have new life. Grateful you are here @micheaelmcdermott! <3

Love you Shellie! :)

Love you too Michael! Hope to see you in the not too distant future.
