The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology scientists have confirmed an entire new organ has been discovered. That's right, there's a tiny little guy hanging out in your abdomen. It's known as the mesentery (literally meaning “in the middle of the intestines”) and it can be found in our digestive systems. Fun fact, Leonardo da Vinci gave one of the first accurate descriptions of this organ way back in the Renaissance but it wasn't until around 2012 the idea of separate structures keeping the intestines attached made light. (Wasn't 2012 the year the world was gonna become a firey ball of foolishness? Guess they were onto bigger and better things than death).
