Is Steemit a Social Media or A Reddit?

in #thoughts7 years ago

So after being on Steemit for a few months I am have been debating if Steem was really a social media site, or more of a social knowledge base much like Reddit or Wikipedia.

It seems like the posts that get the most votes are more along the lines of social knowledge articles. There are those that are traveler blogs but these people also have followers from other platforms.

After try to succeed Steem social media style, and for the most part failing to gather any friends or interest, I am leaning towards Steem finding it's place in the world more as a social knowledge base where people are paid for the articles they write. This makes it a better Wikipedia which I think is needed.

I don't know if it is because I started visiting the site(thanks Google), but I've noticed several articles lately that have pulled up on Steemit. Maybe before, I just didn't pay attention, but the articles usually are knowledge article in nature. It's interesting, nonetheless, but still not sure where this will go.
