The World Passport

It's pretty much exactly like it sounds. Issued by the World Service Authority, a non-profit organisation started back in 1954, the World Passport is an international travel document that cites article 13(2) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights -

"Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country."

It is machine readable and looks very similar to the passports issued by most nations of the world.

What is the World Service Authority?

Back in 1948, a former Broadway actor and World War II fighter pilot, Garry Davis renounced his U.S citizenship and declared himself as a "citizen of the world". Many believe that it was after he witnessed the devastation to property and humanity, that he thought of creating a better world for himself and others. In 1953, Davis founded the World Government of World citizens. Now, based out of Washington, the Authority promotes the idea of being a citizen of the world instead of being from one particular country. A person should find a community in people from across the globe instead of being restricted by borders. Apart from the passport, they also offer world marriage certificates, world birth cards, and other official documents generally issued by the governments of the world.

Why have a world passport?

Back then a world passport was Davis' way of giving stateless and war-torn people and refugees of the world an access to identification that could be used to easily cross international borders. World Service Authority believes the passport would represent "the inalienable human right of freedom of travel on planet Earth".

Can you become a world citizen by getting a world passport?

Most definitely, yes! World Service Authority encourages any and everyone to get a world passport. All one needs to do is head over to the website of the World Service Authority, fill out an application, notify how long you need the passport for and send it to them. That's pretty much it. A 10-year world passport costs around $100, plus shipping and handling which comes to an additional $100 for people living in Asia.

Will it really make my life easier? Is it even recognised?

Now that's a huge grey area. It's uncertain, although the website lists 183 countries that have recognised the passport at least once by stamping a visa or entry/exit stamp on them. It also says that a handful of nations have already recognised it.

However, the website also says that today over 150 countries have visaed it on a case-by-case basis. Which is a big risk because if you're travelling on a World Passport, you are as likely to visit a country as you are to land up in its prison thanks to illegal paperwork. Founder Garry Davies himself has been thrown in jail, at least, a dozen times.

Even though the number of passports issued by WSA are much fewer as compared to 1988 - 1995 thanks to the dissolving of the Soviet Union, they have still managed to issue 750,000 passports worldwide.

While the risk of trying to enter a nation with one right now might be more a problem than before thanks the number of terror attacks that the world has witnessed, it simply poses a question to humanity. Are we the people of a country, loyal only towards our own? Or are we the people of the world who need to look beyond borders?

The idea that one government can become tyrannical, even without many people realizing it, and shut down the escape routes is chilling. That’s why I talk about the need for a second passport in the first place.

But a second passport and second citizenship is about more than just a travel document that may or may not fool some border guard into letting you into that country. It’s about a deeper freedom than that.

Whether it’s Garry Davis becoming stateless or someone starting a crypto-currency as a means of barter between people tired of the fiat system, we support those who challenge convention to seek out true liberty. For those looking for an easier and more traditional path, there are options available and steps to follow.

Unfortunately, the World Passport is not good enough to be the only travel document you’ll ever need. There are, quite simply, better options in countries like Paraguay and Panama. It’s worth learning more about a legitimate second passport.

Finally

I found the application process to be extreamly old and the only way you can get you application through is by using the good Ol postal service. There are no options to email your documents or do an online payment nor do they accept crypto currency . Would you be interested in getting a World Passport, let me know in the comments below.
