Local Udupi-Mangalore boy Aravind KP Completes Dakar Rally 2019!
Aravind KP is one of the finest professional motorcross champions from India and it takes me pleasure to announce that he is the first Indian to finish the Dakar rally race. It is by far the toughest rally out there and this year's 5000 km route through Peru was quite a challenge.
Aravind hails from my neck of the woods Udupi-Mangalore and is someone who rode with our club on some weekends briefly in his earliest days as an amateur motocross racer back in 2007-2008. We'd often meet at the local garage where we serviced our bikes frequently and over some of the weekend rides.
He was the fastest guy around at the time and I recall riding his track bike once and it was one of the craziest machines I had ridden at the time back in 2007-2008.
Over the years he has grown to become one of the best riders in India. He currently rides for Sherco TVS and has successfully completed the tedious rally course. Many congratulations to him and the team. He finished at 31st position which is an amazing feat and it was his 3rd attempt as he had crashed out in the previous two events.
He overcome all kinds of obstacles and while the other Indian rider with Hero MotorSports Team CS Santosh crashed out in Stage 5 of the rally. As a motoring enthusiast I am very proud to report on his accomplishments. He has won several races across the country before working towards his Dakar rally goal.
It's a historic feat nevertheless and I hope in the years to come he will make it to the podium. He is one of the finest talent in the sport from India and I hope to see him win and continue to make our hometown proud of all his achievements!
