LIFE OF A CURATOR
INTRODUCTION
The Graph is currently emerged as one of the hottest project that will have Token Generating Event (TGE) in this Q4/2020. It is also expected to launch its mainnet at the same time. During this Summer, we all heard about "DeFi" term, which warmed up the crypto market and The Graph is also being used by many popular DeFi projects such as Uniswap, Synthetix, Gnosis, AAVE, Aragon, Moloch, Decentraland and many more. That said how important The Graph is in DeFi space. There are many factors made the successful of the project such as cutting edge technology, experienced team, and the last, of course, the community. This article will describe a life as a Graph Curator.
PATICIPANTS IN THE GRAPH NETWORK
There are three main factors that play important roles in The Graph operating process which are Indexers, Curators and Delegators. Particularly, Indexers will be responsible for index and query service while curators will organize the data and signal which subgraph is the most accuracy and helpful. The last participant which are delegators are non-tech people who just simply want to participate the network by delegating their GRT token in order to share the reward.
ROLES OF CURATOR IN THE GRAPH NETWORK
As we are all known, The Graph is open-sourced project meaning that anyone can come and contribute to the growth of the network. However, that caused a problem since not all data are accurate and reliable and blockchain developers may wrongly get harmful APIs. For that reason, curator is responsible to collect and filter which one has quality data. In other words, curators have a key role the same as indexers in the protocol. The author of this article had a honor to start his curator role by participating the Curator Program organized by The Graph and had chance to contribute his efforts to Everest - decentralized projects registry built with a Subgraph, IPFS and 3Box on Ethereum. There is no fixed way to define or run a curator and the most interesting thing of this curator role is that you do not need to have technical knowledge and everyone can be The Graph's curators from developers to community members. Do you feel excited? Let's go deeply by jumping to the next part.
LIFE OF A CURATOR
The author began his curator role by contributing to Everest. At this work, he is responsible to find projects in many fields not only in blockchain but also in other industries to add their information on Everest with the purpose of making the platform become one of the largest decentralized registry website in blockchain space. We have to make sure that it is all correct information since the added projects with wrong data may be taken down if other curators challenge it. Besides, because the platform is still in its early stages, so that you will become a tester for the project by submitting bugs or suggests new features to make the platform better. All the suggestions and bugs will be submitted via Curator Program Repo on Github with user-friendly UI (https://github.com/graphprotocol/mission-control-curator), hence, the author is sure that anyone can do this task easily. Not over yet, if your suggestion is good, you can also get compliment by the Project Lead of The Graph - Mr. Yaniv and your suggestionscan be seriously considered by the core team member
Author's suggestion is complimented from Mr. YanivThe second task the author experienced as curator is to explore the Subgraph at https://thegraph.com/explorer/.
This task here is quite the same with the tester tasks on Everest mentioned above. Particularly, we will play around the UI, find bugs, make sure that the logos, names of projects there match together or test the search function to ensure it going smoothly.etc...By doing this, developers will always use Subgraph comfortably and safely. Next task is what you are reading here. More specifically, we can publish our articles regarding tutorial, introduction about the project, technical stuffs, project development process and so on. This will help other community members enough value to stick around! Finally yet importantly, in the first place, curators are also responsible to help other members in community by helping them to answer frequently questions, guide them to appropriate channels. In the second place, curators can produce art works like memes, stickers to grow the community bigger and stronger. In general, this can be said as the most interesting role in The Graph's ecosystem as there are no limitations on what you can do as a curator. To be more precise, you can everything not just technical stuffs in order to help The Graph unique to other blockchain projects out there. I hope that through this article, readers can have basic insights about this curator role and can confidently join the force.
