Travel for work
I am an essential worker, traveling to remote locations in my multiple island home called Hawai’i. The Coronovavirus or COVID-19 virus has lead to the closing of many businesses by the government and the loss of billions in tourism dollars, plus lost wages. It is uniformly accepted as the price we pay to protect our Kapuna our elderly people and our Keiki* children. Plus our vulnerable people.
It has been very hard on our island cultures, especially because our traditional greeting is to say hello and hug each other, while we feel the breath of our friend on our cheek.
Today’s travel took me to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. It was called Honolulu International Airport. It is a few miles outside Honolulu and is easily to find. There is plenty of ground transportation there including hotel shuttles, taxis and buses. Son there will also be a train from the airport to the resort section of town called Waikiki. Tourism is the lifeblood of the Hawaiian Islands, but the governments shut down tourism early by working with the airlines to stop most of the flights into the State from overseas and the mainland US.
The beautiful art
The airport has beautiful art, which features Hawaiian flowers.
Empty Waiting Area
This is the airport waiting room and It is pretty empty, with staff and travelers seemingly in equal numbers.
The waiting area.
I flew Hawaiian Airlines It features planes decorated with beautiful Wahine (woman in Hawaiian language)The planes are painted with pretty flowers and the side image of a woman. The seats are a cute turqoise blue.
Very Few Travelers
My flight had 20-30 passengers on 120 seat plane. As you can see from the pictures the planeis empty and I felt quite safe knowing I was six feet or more from anyone and the air was being filtered. They have staff clean the plane with a mist disinfector in between flights and they give you a hand sanitizer as you get on the plane so I wipe down my seat belt.
I wear a mask and comply with social distancing rules. I actually think it’s pretty safe to fly inter island because so few people are traveling. The prices are great too. A $200.00 flight costs only $100.00 now.
🛫🛫🛫 Shortsegments
How wonderful, despite the situation given by the pandemic, you have the opportunity to travel and in addition to enjoying the beauty of that airport, just by looking at the photos I could imagine how great it is to be in that place, compared to the airport hence it looks like a ghost airport, it's a shame how they ended up with that.
I hope your trip goes well, Blessings.

Thank you.
👍🏻
