THE DIARY GAME: 01.08.2020
Hello!
Today my day began with a rise at 08.00 in the morning. The weather was cloudy, so it was decided to visit the Historical and Memorial Complex “To the Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad” on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd.
After having breakfast and doing some household chores, I with my daughter and husband went on a trip, after 45 minutes we were already there.
The memorial complex is a series of architectural and spatial links. As we climb the mound, more and more elements and compositions of the memorial open before our eyes. The author of the complex is Evgeny Vuchetich.
All sculptural compositions are made in reinforced concrete. The sidewalks and squares are paved with granite. The water in the pools symbolizes the great Russian Volga River.
The central monument on the square is a sculpture of a warrior who covers Motherland with his body.
From Heroes' Square, we go to the Hall of Military Glory. On its walls, on purple mosaic banners, 7200 names of those killed in the defense of Stalingrad are engraved.
In the center of the hall is the Eternal Flame, where soldiers carry a guard of honor. Changing of the guard every hour.
And we go out of the hall to the square of Sorrow.
On it, in a lake of tears, there is a sculpture “Grieving Mother”, who bent over her son.
Well, and at the very top of the Mamayev Kurgan is the main attraction - the sculpture “The Motherland Calls!” The statue dominates the city and is visible for tens of kilometers.
The total height of the sculpture with a sword is 85 meters. The total weight of the structure is 8 thousand tons.
Here 200 days in a row there were fierce battles with the enemy.
Tens of thousands of soldiers died here.
More than 40 thousand defenders of Stalingrad are buried along the road to the top. Mamaev Kurgan is not only a memorial. It is also a cemetery for warriors. Not only a place of glory but also sorrow.
This is not the first trip here, and I don't think it will be our last. And so our day ended.
All the while, until we meet again!
This is not our first trip here, and I think it will not be the last. And so our day ended.
Bye, see you soon!
