My Favorite Local Sports Team - Enyimba FC of Aba
Although European soccer is very popular in Africa due to the low funding that local leagues and club get, and because of several indigenous African players that play for big clubs in Europe, yet the local soccer league is often popular when it gets to CAF Champions League. As a Nigerian, my favorite soccer team is the Enyimba Football Club. The club is based in Aba, A popular city in Abia state, Nigeria, and is the most successful soccer team in the country at the moment. The name Enyimba means The People's Elephant. Though I do not go to watch the team's matches, due to long distance between my state and Abia state, I watch their matches on the TV.

Enyimba FC have won the CAF (Confederation of African Football) Champions League twice (in 2003 and 2004), as well as the CAF Super Cup twice (2004 and 2005). They have also won the Nigerian league eight times. On the international scene, Enyimba featured for the first time in August 2001, when they played Inter Milan in a charity friendly match, to mark the return of Ronaldo after a 21-month injury. That match ended 7-0 against the People's Elephant.
