6/25/2020 Entry to the Steemit Diary Game - I learned to use Cassette Tapes

in #the100daysofsteem4 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone! Welcome to my next diary entry. A lot happened yesterday. This entry is a little late because I spent the morning making a recording of a piece for this entry. Let's get into my life:

My Life

Yesterday I woke up at 10am. I ran down stairs because Blitz had bolted down the stairs, and I swear it sounded from my room like he fell. Despite being 8, he is still incredibly athletic.

The first thing I did yesterday was shower. I then proceeded to procrastinate writing the diary entry until the latest possible point. I watched YouTube videos, played the piano, and had a bowl of cereal while watching the news for thirty minutes. Blitz was angry. He came over and sat patiently waiting for me to give him milk for the whole time, and when I finished I had none to give him. He was not happy.

I started work on the diary entry around 12:30pm, and finished around 1:30pm. @esouthern3 was coming to pick me up at 2pm, so I sat outside and waited while watching YouTube on my phone. We were going to Taylor's Music Store to look for music for Music for Steem. On the way, we listened to The Greatest Showman's soundtrack.

Going to Taylor's was the first time I had gone to a "non-essential" store in months. It was very interesting how different it was. There were barriers on the counter between the cashier and customers, and there were marks on the floor signifying where to stand. We found a lot of good sheet music (sadly not for the piece for this week, so I have to look online), but I am not going to tell you what that sheet music was. Gotta keep it secret. I also got a book of ragtime version of Disney songs. Here is a recording I made earlier today of one of them:

Also, fun fact, the name tag was given to me by my beautiful girlfriend Emma on the night of our senior prom.

After going to Taylor's, we went to Rita's water ice to get water ice. I got two flavors: Cotton Candy and Swedish fish. Emma got some type of custard I think. You can see a picture of us at Rita's above (I wanted it to be the thumbnail).

After Emma dropped me off at home, I read through some of the new music. I decided I wanted to make a recording of something from the Disney ragtime book, and learned the Bare Necessities. It took a little bit because I changed the harmony on the last page. I realized the theme would work well with chromatic descent int he bass, so I changed the music to incorporate a chromatic descent in the bass.

After learning that, I decided to organize my bookshelf. Years of putting books back in the wrong place had left it disorganized, and a mess. It took me a while to organize the bookshelf. While I did it, I took out a Christmas gift from my mother.

This has a long backstory. Back in December, Emma, Bridget, Hinrich, and I went to see a church concert with my family. When I was dropping Emma and Bridget off at Emma's house at 11pm (Bridget's car was there), a reckless driver (who I suspect was drunk) tried to pass me on the left (at a high speed) while I was turning left into Emma's driveway. He hit my car, and drove away. The point of me telling this story is that my first car (a 1992 Oldsmobile) was totaled by this accident. My mom had gotten me a bunch of Cassette's for the car (since it only had a cassette player) for Christmas. So I also got a cassette player for Christmas. Yesterday I used it for the first time. @remlaps had a good laugh when I ran upstairs to ask him how to open the cassette case, and then I ran back downstairs when he showed me. I realized when looking at the cassette player that I had no idea how to put the cassette in, and ran upstairs again to ask him. For whatever reason, older people enjoy watching young people struggle with old technology. Last I checked, we are pretty kind when they ask us to show them how to use their cell phone.

I first listened to the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, but realized that the tape was bad. So I put in the Messiah (since I was familiar with the music) to see if the problem was with the player or the tape. It was with the tape. I really like old recordings of the Messiah! I had a lot of fun listening to that. After organizing the bookshelf, I polished the piano so that it would look nice for the video.

Around 8pm, my dad and I went to pick up dinner. We had breakfast for dinner (from a diner). I had steak and eggs. Here is a picture @remlaps and I got in the car at the restaurant:

At 10pm, Emma and I played bedwars. We won a lot at first, and around midnight stopped winning. I went to bed around 1am, and was sad to see that the 100 days of Steem hadn't been posted yet :(

Thanks for reading this! I hope to write up my "this is me" post soon, and continue the achievements. I also have to post the discussion today.

That's really Good

Greetings dear @cmp2020.

Is there really a "Swedish Fish" flavor? Amazing!

A cassette player, wow! In the past, you could get some good-brand ones that offered high-fidelity sound. I think "Pioneer's" was the best.

For whatever reason, older people enjoy watching young people struggle with old technology.

Lol, I hadn't thought about it! Maybe it's because they are always intimidated by new technology.

I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your participation with Emma in Music for Steem. You guys are great.

All best, Piotr.
