Concrete Flippers
Funny thing happened the other day. I was walking along the Thames with a friend of mine from Russia. We were talking about cruel and unusual punishment (as you do) and how things were really bad in medieval times.
I thought the general ambiance, especially all the rustic debris on the bank of the Thames was perfect for such a conversation.
She then brought up a popular Russian punishment used by the mafia called "concrete flippers". I assumed that to be a translation. Basically they would dip the person's feet in a cast of cement until solidified. They would then lower said person into a pool. You can imagine the rest.
Moments after she completed the description, we walked past this block.

P. S. And it was not only punishment, more often in movies it become execution.
