Tex maker (Solution for "Couldn't start this command" error)
Recently I bought new laptop PC, T440p from Lenovo and it is good for me to deal with my several stuffs. But I have one problem with it. I was going to install Tex to write reports and I downloaded and installed MikTex and Texmaker from the internet. When I set up before, I didn’t have any problem but I couldn’t compile the file in Texmaker this time. I found only this message “Couldn’t start this command.”. I tried to fix this many time but it took much time for me.
When I searched to solve this problem in several websites, I found this one, http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/84357/new-installation-texmaker-quick-build-says-could-not-start-the-command. I think it helped me who was embarrassed. From this site, you can realize there are some case that the editor doesn’t work well with MikTex and in such a case Tex Live will help you then. You can download Tex Live here. After that, all you have to do is downloading Texmaker. This website helped me well. But it is in Japanese so I will write the way to set up Tex Live and Texmaker.
Tex Live
Before beginning, you need to download Perl and install it.
Download Tex Live and extract install.tl.zip (if your OS is Linux or Mac, it is “install-tl-unx.tar.gz”.) and move the folder whose name is like “install-tl-2014XXXX” to C:\ directory.
Open the command prompt and type the following codes. (if your OS is Linux or Mac, go to the folder you extracted and boost the installer with “./install-tl”. And install as the instruction.)
#################################
c:
cd \install-tl-2014XXXX
install-tl
#################################
Texmaker
Download and install Texmaker from this site.
After that, go to Configure. (Menu -> Options -> Configure)
In the Commands section,
Dvipdfm: dvipdfmx -f ptex-ipaex.map %.dvi
Pdf Viewer: Turn on “Build-in Viewer” and “Embed”.
In the Quick Build section, select “LaTeX + dvipdfm + View PDF”.
In the Editor section, select “UTF-8″ in Editor Font Encoding.
