This Week in the DFW

This week the DFW Metroplex has some great stuff going on!

TECH:

• #BigDOCC - Talk tech, startups, and digital lifestyle for an hour!
  Plus free breakfast tacos (they say burritos, but we are in Texas - it's a taco) and coffee!
  #BigDOCC are every Tuesday AM. There are 8 other Coffee Clubs in the DFW area if this one is too far away to join.

• Dallas New Tech is hosting a Fireside Chat with Matt Alexander.
  #FindYourCommunity at DFW's longest running monthly showcase event for new companies and technologies in North Texas.
  DATE: February 6, 2018 - 6pm to 8:30pm

• Dallas Innovation Alliance - DIA STEM Committee Meeting is focused on cultivating partnerships within the local STEM community.
  DATE: February 7, 2018 - 6pm to 7pm

• Overcoming Challenges, Adversity, and Obstacles hosted by Refresh Dallas - "...focusing on a community of designers and developers working to refresh the creative, technical and professional aspects of new media endeavors in the Dallas area."
  DATE: February 8, 2018 - 7pm to 9pm

• On Friday, I will be meeting up with a friend to partake in LinkedIn Local Dallas Meetup | Take Two. The idea is to get face-to-face time with other locals in the area. Check out https://Linkedinlocally.com/ for more details on LinkedIn Local.

This weekend also has a couple of really cool events going on in the Tech Sector. One I will be volunteering at all weekend, and the other event is focused on sustainability, a field I am passionate about.

• Fishackathon 2018, A Global Sustainability Hackathon
  DATE: February 10, 2018 - 8:30am to 6pm

• I will be volunteering at IDEAS - Dallas Data Science Conference 2018.
  Sessions are focused on data within the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Big Data, FinTech, Healthcare, and more. Tickets to the Conference via EventBrite.
  DATE: February 10, 2018 - 10am to 5pm

MUSIC:

• When I was a young buck, my brothers were my biggest musical influences on me. One of the genres (of the many) they introduced me to was electronic music. I started listening to a bunch of rave DJs (it was the 90s, and raves were happening everywhere!).
  One of these pioneering DJs was Josh Wink.
  Higher State of Consciousness was a revolutionary song for the time, and you can still hear and feel the impact in today's EDM scene.
  DATE: February 6, 2018 - 6pm to 8:30pm at the It'll Do Club. I saw him last year at the same bar, and I am glad I did. It was a blast from my childhood past!

• I am a HUGE Vince Staples fan, and he is playing at the Bomb Factory on Thursday. Tickets are SOLD OUT! Anyone want to hook me up with a free ticket?! :)

• Ever heard of SoFar Sounds?

  I have been to a few of these concerts in the DFW area, and they are always entertaining! Meet new people, sit on the floor of someone's living room, and jam to some great local & national sounds.
  DATE: Ongoing, you need to RSVP, and be confirmed for the event, then you can purchase tickets for $15/ticket.

OTHER EVENTS I AM INTO:

• The Texas Ale Project is hosting a Pop-Up Beer Dinner in the Design District.
  DATE: February 7, 2018 - 7p-9p

• The 4th Annual North Texas Craft Beer Chili Challenge at Luck in Trinity Groves. Donate $10 for 10 cups & a spoon to participate in the tasting. Every $10 also gets you one vote for the winner!
  DATE: February 11, 2018 - 12p-5p
