Tesla Roadster 2.0: The Combustion Engine Killer?
I am a self-proclaimed petrolhead, so when Tesla launched the new Roadster boasting a 0-60 time of 1.9s and a 0-100 time of 4.2s I was shocked. This acceleration coupled with the 600+ mile range promised, surely this is the perfect car?
This comparison of a Bugatti Chiron and the Tesla Roadster's specs side by side definitely makes this new Tesla seem like the perfect car. But all of these numbers are not confirmed by any third parties as of yet and I am very skeptical about whether Tesla will be able to fulfill their promises. With an expected release date of 2020, Tesla has 3 years to perfect what could be the fastest road car ever. I hope that they accomplish this goal too because it will be a great leap foward in the automotive world. However, Tesla and Elon Musk more specifically have been known to exaggerate 0-60 times in the past. Furthermore, Tesla will need to create or wait for new battery technology to supply the power required for the 600+ range promised, this is because current battery technology will simply not support that speed and torque for that length of time.
I truly hope that I am wrong and the Roadster lives up to the hype because we have all seen Tesla do it before with the p100d which reached 60mph in 2.3s. What do you think? Would you buy a Roadster and has the electric car won over petrol and diesel engines? Probably not yet but we are gonna see huge strides in electric cars and maybe one day they will take over.
Here is a Tesla Roadster vs a 1996 Toyota Previa for those of you wondering which to buy:
Love the last comparison... so right for New Zealand, #teamnewzealand.
