Now you want to buy a new smartphone this early year but you are confused on where to put your hard earned money.
There are more phones to pick from than ever before in history.
Alot of companies have come up with good smartphones and are successfully competing right there with the big companies.
You have probably heard of the new samsung edge phones, iphones, lg phones. But this post is not to give you a particular phone or brand to buy. There are just a few things to consider before buying a new smartphone.
So without further a do let's get right into it.

operating system

This should be the first step towards choosing a smartphone, there are mainly four operating systems. Windows, ios, android, blackberry. It's important to understand that two of these Operating systems are dominating the industry. So most of the phones you are going to pick from will come from ios or android, though don't let this distract you from choosing from other operating systems like windows.
Am not recommending anything here but one should know that android and ios are so future proof, they give more features and stability.
This right here depends on your needs.

Battery life

This is one of the most important things to consider. Unfortunately most of us give it little to no attention. These is no point in buying a good looking smartphone when you can't be outdoors for more than 3 hours.
Or maybe you just pack powerbanks in your bag, moving with extra luggage because you bought a phone with poor battery life isn't something to feel proud of and neither is
it cool to be tethered to a wall like a goat the entire day.
Software optimization can contribute to battery performance but there is no excuse here.
Bottom line is, it makes much sense to buy a phone with a bigger battery.

performance

Latest specifications deliver fast and smooth performances in any phone. So it's kind of logical to buy the newest phone right?
Well not so fast.
We are nolonger playing the specs game anymore, some phones of 2016 are still as first or even faster than phones released in 2017.so again software optimization contributes alot to this.
So smartphones have alot of bloatware(unwanted) apps that tend to slow them down, some receive software updates that tend to affect their performance.
Generally getting a phone with stock android from google will give the best performance for your phone's raw power.
Some manufacturers like one plus, essential, google itself produce phones with little to no bloatware installed. Some like htc have started to keep bloatware to minimal.
So phones with the latest hardware are supposed to be faster. The money you pay for a particular phone will help you on this one.
But remember you don't need the fastest phone in the world.

features

These depend from user to user.most manufacturers bring different unique features to their phones. But don't let the over hyped features lead you to buying a crappy phone so expensively.
If the galaxy note 8 has am iris scanner, ask yourself how often you are going to use it, the s pen how often do you use it or even need.
Maybe you hear lg's v30 has a wide angle camera, if you love it then you can consider buying it if not don't spend more for features you don't even need.
Though some major features to consider in 2018 are;

a good camera
fingerprint and Nfc

these could be more useful than you think.

waterproofing

Each of these can be present or absent in a smartphone. Other features like fast charging, wireless charging, face unlock, removable batteries will vary on each user.

Display

I know most of us have never considered this yet we forget that everytime we use our phone we are looking at the display.
Regardless of how you use your phone a good display is so essential.
There are many display technologies though an average use won't spot alot of a difference.
Most reputable companies produce good displays regardless. Sharpness is essential a full hd screen should be the minimum in 2018.
Display's brightness in sunlight and how dim it can get in total darkness.
Good viewing angles, the phone's display shouldn't dim or change colours ln the slightest shift to the side.
So it's better you look at it from rather an off angle to see if it loses it's color.
A protection for the display is essential too, phones with scratches don't look good, such display's can fail you from seeing some letters in an article like this one.
So the phone's display covers over 70% of the phones front, it should be good.

Build

There are so may phone build materials used, from ceramic, plastic, metal, glass, leather.
But if anyone is to consider a phone's build, they should be able to understand the trade offs of certain designs and builds.
A plastic phone like lg g3 is likely to be durable though it feels and looks cheap and it's likely not to be waterproof.

A glass phone like galaxy s8 looks pretty and waterproofed though it's prone to shattering at the lightest drop.

Metal phones are durable though they lack wireless charging and waterproofing.
It all depends on a choice as long as you put the above into consideration.

Lastly i will talk about a phone's value, buying a very good phone at a much cheaper price is everyone's goal.
However phones like one plus 3, one plus 5, lg g5, motorola g4, actually most top phones 2016 bring alot of value for their performance. Most phones drop their prices after about 5 months of their relaease so it's important to put that into consideration.
Some once expensive phones like lg g6, the essential phone, galaxy s8 have dropped so it's not a bad idea to check them out because they are still good phones regardless.
Putting that aside, you might want to sell your phone, so phones with a much resale value are going to make you some more bucks even after using your phone for a while. Iphones have the most resale value even after a long time of using them. Most of other phones are pretty the same.
Some chinese brands mostly sold to Africa like the tecnos, infinix, gionee have the lowest resale value. So given the fact that they are cheap you won't sell them for alot after using them.

If you put all those into consideration and still find some faults in your new phone otherwise you will be just nitpicking.

so go buy yourself a phone and steem from anywhere

Sort:

To all and everyone around the world.
I used Apple for years now. The company has so many scandals that I will only buy Samsung now.

Of recent some issues were being settled as they were pushing out forced updates to slow down old iphones.

Btw I agree with the comment below. Give your recommendations. If you had to buy a phone now, what would it be?

The new oneplus 5T, and you?
