More technology! What does web responsiveness mean?
Did you know that computer sales are experiencing a dip for the first time in 10 years? This is because we are now entering an age where Tablets and Smartphones are taking a lead in technology. This adjustment is changing the face of the internet as well has how websites are designed and created. Websites need the functionality to RESPOND to these smaller devices, ensuring a user friendly and convenient browser experience.
In layman’s terms, Responsive Web Design refers to a process where a website can adjust itself on the device it’s being displayed on. So for instance if you are looking at a site using your iPhone, the website will adjust to that device’s screen size and display information neatly and efficiently.
To get more technical; Responsive Web Design utilizes CSS media queries to serve various properties depending on the size of the screen, orientation, resolution, colour capability and other characteristics of the user’s device.
You can easily see if a website is responsive or not by using your web browser:
If you resize your web browser to a smaller size, the site’s layout should re-fit neatly to the new window’s size in real-time.
Responsive website design is a MUST for all websites that want to effectively impress and make life convenient for potential clients. Responsive Design ensures that:
1. You only need one website for every device – for viewing pleasure.
2. You will have a pleasant and optimal layout for every device.
3. There will be no need for re-directs to Mobi-sites and the like – convenient for visitors.
Five years ago I didn't have a clue about websites. I didn't know how they are built and why they are so important. But since then my hubby has started his own web development company and I love learning about technology from him. Even more so, I love to share my findings here with you on Steemit!
