Lets talk - Cloud Computing #1 Public Cloud
Hey everyone,
in my first content filled post I want talk about a topic, I'm in touch with every single day:
Cloud Computing
On my job as an application manager I'm in touch with new technology every single day. One of my biggest interests is cloud computing here.
Today, many companys use innovativ cloud solutions for their daily business.
But:
- What is a public-, private-, or hybrid cloud?
- Which advantages do these models bring?
- Which would be the best solution as a company?
In this post - I talk about the Public Cloud in two futher posts, about private & hybrid cloud.
Public Cloud
A public cloud makes both IT systems and services (e.g. storage space, computing power) available to the public via the Internet. Publicly, it could be suggested that data in a public cloud is freely available to all and therefore there is no security. However, this is not the case, since security in a public cloud is guaranteed by virtual private networks, so that only authorized persons can be given access and authorizations.
The services of the public cloud are quickly available if required and can be returned just as quickly at the end of use. This means that peak loads can be elegantly absorbed by dynamically added resources without having to permanently maintain a large fleet of equipment. Investment costs are therefore replaced by running costs, which is also due to the fact that billing takes place "on demand" according to the degree of utilization of the resources used.
The largest provider of public cloud services worldwide is Amazon Web Services (AWS), followed by Microsoft. At AWS, globally available regions ensure that configurations of your own IT are quickly available all over the world and that even extensive content - such as large documents or videos - can be loaded quickly using local caches.
Advantages of public cloud
- Lower costs through resource sharing (cloud infrastructure can be used by several companies) and pay-as-you-go principle (companies only pay for what they use)
- Elimination of server administration and maintenance costs
- Flexible scaling of own applications and processes
- Reliability - the provider takes care of outages and monitors, logs and fixes infrastructure problems
- Security - Virtual private networks secure your own IT architectures and usually provide better protection against unauthorized access or network attacks than security systems set up under your own control.
There are also more features like SaaS , IaaS and many more - if you want to know more about it - just let me know in the comments below 👇
In the next post of "Lets talk - Cloud Computing" I'll talk about the Private Cloud.

Cloud computing is one of the techs I want to dive deeper into since I don't have that much knowledge about it, thanks for sharing, keep the content flowing :)
Thanks mate- I think tomorrow will come the next post about it 👨💻 stay tuned ✌🏼
