Web Host Servers
Web hosting service is that type of hosting internet service which allows user and other organizations so that they can provide their own webdsites which are accessible via the World Wide Web. The space on a server that they owened are privided by the Web hosts, aslo for use by their clients as well as providing internet connection, espically in a data centre.
Web hosts can also provide data centre space and connectivity to the internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data centre, called Colocation.
➡The types of web hosting services are:
Free Web hosting service:It is a free service, (sometimes) advertisement supported web hosting, and is often limited when compared to paid hosting.
Shared Web hosting service:In this service, one's website is placed on the same server as many other sites, ranging from a few to hundreds or thousands.. Typically, all domains mag share a common pool of server resources, such as RAM and the CPU. A shared website may be hosted with a reseller.
Reseller Web hosting: This service allows clients to become web hosts themselves. Reseller could function, for individual domains, under any combination of these listed types of hosting ,depending on who they are affiliated with as a provider. Reseller's account may vary tremendously in size; they may have their own virtual didicated server to a colocated server.
Virtual dedicated server: In this service, their is sliceing of a server into virtual servers. Each user feels like they are on their own dedicated server, but they are actually sharing a server with many other users. The users may have root access to their own virtual space.
Dedicated hosting service: In this service; the user gets his/her own server and gains full controll over it (root access for Linux /administrator access for Windows); however, the user typically does not own the server. Another type of dedicated hosting is self-managed and unmanaged. This is usually the least expensive for dedicated plans. The user has full administrative access in the box, which means the client is responsible for the security and maintainance of his own dedicated box.
- Managed hosting servers: In this service, the user gets his/her own web server but is not allowed full control over it (root access for Linux /administrator access for windows); however, they are allowed to manage their data via FTP or other remote management tools. The user is not allowed full control so that the provider can gurantee quality of service as the user cannot modify the server or potentially create configuration problems. The user typically does not own the server. The server is leased to the client.
Colocation Web hosting service: This service is similar to Dedicated Web Hosting service, but the user owns the colocated server; the hosting company provides physical space that the server takes up and takes care of server. This is the most powerful and ecpensive type of the web hosting service . In most cases ,the colocation provider may provide little to no support directly for their client's machine, providing only the electrical, Internet access, and storage facilities for the server. In most cases for colocation, the client would have its own administrator visit the data centre on site to do any hardware upgrade or changes.
Clustered hosting: This service includes multiple servers hosting the same content for better resource utilisation.
Web hosting involves the following steps:
1. Registering with a service provider.
2. Obtaining the resource on server.
3. Loading of contents into server.
4. Obtaining URL and IP address.
5. Verification from client.
