This flying car will be ready for take off in 2019

Pal-V, the world's first commercial flying car, is on display at the Geneva Motor Show

A first commercial flying car in the world, exhibited at an international automotive exhibition in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.

Cars worth 499 thousand euros, or about Rp 8.6 billion with the name of Personal Air and Land Vechicle (Pal-V) was called capable of speeding up to 170 kilometers per hour

The main engine in this flying car is a hybrid, which is a combination of motorcycle engines and helicopters.

First launched at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, this three-wheeled car has a passenger capacity of two people, and has earned safety certification in the United States (US) and Europe.

This vehicle is made from a combination of carbon fiber, titanium, and aluminum material with a total weight of 680 kilograms. Interestingly, it only takes a 165 meter flat surface to take off, and along the 30 meters to land.

The steering system is made similar to a motorcycle, where the driver simply controls it through a handlebar combined a control lever, and a cockpit panel with simple usage instructions.

To drive up to the maximum power, this vehicle requires fuel oil (BBM) as much as 27 gallons, or about 102 liters.

With a number of such fuel, Pal-V is able to fly as far as nearly 500 kilometers at an altitude of 3,500 meters. As on land, with the same conditions, able to travel a maximum distance of up to 1200 kilometers.

Both on land and in the air, the Pal-V is capable of speeding up to 170 kilometers, and reaching speeds from 0 to 95 kilometers in less than eight minutes.

It took up to six years of trials for the Pal-V to commercially launch ready, and seize the status as a pioneer in the production of personal flying cars in bulk.

"The concept of flying cars has appeared in many movies, and next year, it will come true," said Pal-V CEO Robert Dingemanse to the Associated Press.

The owners of the Pal-V - as well as other flying vehicles - are required to have a driver's license and a pilot license.

For the first two years after release in the market, the new Pal-V can be operated in the United States and some European countries, such as Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.

This car requires manual intervention when it wants to be converted from land mode to air. Although not simple, but PAL-V claims this transformation can be done in less than 10 minutes.

For the first year, this car will only be sold limited to 90 units, where per unit dibanderol for 499 thousand euros, or about Rp 8.6 billion.
