Technology behind the famous Duck Hunt Game - History tech behind.
Duck Hunt a game which was released in 1984 in Japan. The game was developed by Nintendo for their Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) video game console. This game was the second best selling game on NES selling over 28 million copies.
The technology behind this game is actually quite simple. The gun from which we shoot the duck contains a photodiode which senses the little white box which appears after several seconds for few microseconds.
Basically when we point the gun to the duck the game controller sends signal to the TV (old CRT monitors) to generate a full black screen and two white pixels in the place of the duck for few microseconds so the photodiode present in the gun detects that pixel and the duck dies. However we cannot see that black screen.
And when we misses the duck the gun didn't detects those pixels and the duck flies away. This is the simple tech which that game uses. However we cannot play that game in modern LCD's and LED's because they cannot produce that black screen for few microseconds.
