Droids can now see through walls with wifi, just like what Batman did in Joker movie. [ Tech Analytics ]
Researchers at University of California, Santa Barbara, have successfully developed a new system that uses two UAVs and one WIFI antenna to see through the wall.
The first droid can launch a signal that penetrates the building, and another UAV on the other side of the building will receive the signal. Two droids fly back and forth on both sides of the building until the collection of wavelengths in different locations is completed. People can use this data to draw a 3D model inside the building, while UAVs are self-running and communicating with each other in the process.
At the beginning of the study, research already successfully used this technique to draw the 2D model of the building, and soon extend the technique to draw 3D model. The device used include a common Wi-Fi router and a Google Tango tablet, the common robotic tools such as Raspberry Pi and Wi-Fi signal card are also used for the receiving party.
the indoor mapping technology has great potential in archeology, which can facilitate the staff to understand more details of the historical sites, without having the risk of deconstruction.
