Check Out Tesla's New Electric Pickup "Truck"
Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!
Hey, did y'all see Tesla's new truck? He just unveiled it a few days ago. The thing doesn't look like a pickup truck though:
Looks more like a Delorean. It even has a stainless steel body like a Delorean. I have mixed reactions. I think it looks kinda cool as a vehicle, but kinda goofy as a pickup.
Some of the stats are impressive though. A maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload of 3,500 pounds. That's a big payload. That dwarfs the Ford F-150's, that's more like the F-350.
It's got lots of storage because the batteries are under the floorboards. The front of the truck has a storage compartment too.
For the cheapest model which starts at $39,900, the 0 to 60MPH time is 6.5 seconds but for the top range models which start at $70,000, the 0 to 60 time is 2.9 seconds!
The cheaper model batteries last for 200 miles, the most expensive model lasts for 500 miles before recharging. Test models had a ramp type of tailgate but it's unclear if that will happen when production starts.
The body is very strong because it's one piece:
It's tough too, they said it's "bullet resistant," at least up to 9mm size bullets.
The windows are supposed to be unbreakable but on the night he unveiled this thing one of their people threw steel balls at them and they shattered. lol.. so that was an epic fail but he didn't seem too embarrassed. He just said that needs work.

They liked it. About the only thing I like is the tires.
I tell ya what though, this thing is so short that it'll never go over in redneck country, we like our pickups big and tall!
You wouldn't be able to see squat in this new Tesla, might as well be drivin a clown car. But I'm sure in California and Canada it will sell just fine!

You have some time to decide, it's gonna be at least a couple years for this to hit the dealerships but they're taking orders now! Yeah, they said they already have 203,000 pre-market orders.
Just expect it to be a heck of a lot more expensive by the time they actually put them on the street!

That thing is hideous. Impressive stats though. I'd like to see a little more curves and a longer bed, I don't think anyone will be taking that thing to the job site.
Haha! My first reaction was the same sir hhayweaver! I agree, anyone going to the job site with that thing will be laughed off the site. lol. This would be fine for like a city car or something but not a working truck.

I would pump that somnabeech. Add a 6" kit to the rear to accommodate the lack of view, paint it mirror polish chrome and mirror tint the windows? Shoot, be crazy pimpin man!

lol! Now THAT might look like something then sir enginewitty. The bed needs to be bigger for a working truck though, maybe they'll come out with different sizes. If this one sells they'll probably come up with a much larger version because I'd hate to show up to a work site with this thing. lol.

Howdy deirdyweirdy! I was going to mention that it had no mirrors but then I forgot to! It makes it look even stranger without them and I have no idea why it has none. Maybe they'll have mirrors when it finally hits the production floor.
Do you like the looks of it and would it be a practical vehicle for you? You could throw your dogs in the back or whatever.
Perhaps if I had dogs and could drive, I might put it on my bucket list.

I'm still not sure which one looks better. The first or the one from the last photo. And I'm not sure how those batteries will perform at minus 40 Celsius.
Lol! I guess you won't be ordering one of the presale models. lol..That is a great point about the batteries in the dead of Canada's winter, good question!
200 miles from a charge? Wouldn't get one too far in the Aussie outback. I'll stick with dinosaur juice I think. (Diesel) At least for now. It's ugly too.

Haha! Howdy sir galenkp! Someone else said they didn't know which was uglier, the Tesla or my redneck model at the end. lol. This looks like a nice little city vehicle to me, not a real working truck with a big bed and big mileage range.
I want to see it it with a deer catcher and snowplow. Or maybe a zombie scoop.
