With today's more advanced materials technology I see no reason why an airship like the Hindenberg couldn't be made today. Perhaps with a graphite fiber skeleton instead of the steel frame the hindenberg used, perhaps a graphene membrane for the gas envelope instead of rubberized canvas.
Think big.
Maybe even feasible to collect atmospheric humidity and electrolyze hydrogen out of it at a rate sufficient to replace what escapes.
