Is this technology Burning out the fuel or Burning out our lives???

As a major player in the oil and gas sector due to my professional calling as an engineer and at the same time an advocate of ecological conservation, when my opinion is sought on whether discovery of fossil fuel (oil & gas) has done more good or more harm to us here in the Nigeria – Niger Delta, I begin to respond with a very high degree of palpitation.

Why?

Our homes, cars, industries, machineries etc are all energized and driven daily with petroleum and its by-products which of course is a huge plus and a quantum leap from the medieval to the contemporary age but WHAT ABOUT THE VERY CORE OF OUR livelihood?

Our hitherto arable lands, mangrove forests, our aquatic life, our sources of potable water, our wildlife have all been very negatively impacted and is primarily responsible for the armed agitations, poverty, militancy, hostage taking and related crimes recorded in the creeks of the Nigeria - Niger Delta…..

A picture they say is more than a thousand words…..these pictures surely would speak volumes on the more good or more harm the discovery of black gold has brought us….let us draw this inference collectively....!

Now the good news is.........R.JPG

We now are hopeful that our source of gain and pain will give way sooner than later says Purdue researchers....

We can begin to smile again! we can begin to breathe clean, fresh, and unpolluted air again! We can begin to eat fresh, unpolluted fish-stew delicacies again...though after remediation you may say but one thing is sure: when this source of pain and gain becomes less profitable, comes the release of life in its natural, untampered state.
