Google is patching a bug that slows down Wi-Fi networks connected to both Android and Chromecast devices

Google is rolling out a patch today which will fix a bug that slows down Wi-Fi networks connected to both Android and Chromecast built-in devices. According to a blog post, Google said a bug in its Cast software on Android phones may incorrectly send a large amount of network traffic, which can slow down or temporarily impact Wi-Fi networks. The company notes that the impact to the network depends on which router you’re using. People with an Android phone and a Chromecast device, like Google Home, on the same Wi-Fi network are impacted by the bug.

Google says it has identified the issue, and the fix will be issued via a Google Play service update. The company says users experiencing the problem should reboot their phones and check that their Wi-Fi router has been updated with the latest firmware.

Hopefully this will fixes those network hiccups I get from time to time that I could have sworn had something to do with my phone.

The problem wasn't present on all routers. Some times the router would completely stop not just slow down. Chrome casts were sending so many packets practically DDOSing the network from the inside. Google has had quite a few problems recently, and they just decided to make another phone pixel 2 as well as make their own chrome book. I have a pixel Gen 1 and the wifi in that is often unusable for videos, also had a microphone weld give out which they had said they fixed on all new models. Clearly not though. I hope Google finds their way once again, I haven't been a happy google supporter as of late. If their search results begin to be shitty thats the last straw.

Yeah i head about this issue with google wifi devices but i don't understand can't they do quality assurance before launching the product especially tech giant like google :/ @contentjunkie

Yaa i was also facing this problem so i have changed my wifi router

Thanks for the update CJ. I have noticed a degradation in the performance casting videos to my monitor over my W-LAN. I suspected that the problem could something to do with Chromecast firmware or the Google Play Services software but I wasn't really sure. Now I know exactly what caused the problem. Looking forward to the next service software release.
