OPod Tube House - economical housing in concrete pipes
Architect James Lowe developed the project OPod Tube House - mini apartments, equipped in concrete pipes with a diameter of 2.5 meters. The project is focused on overpopulated megacities, was presented in Hong Kong.
Blocks of pipes form entire houses and assume placement in places where it is impossible to build a full-fledged building. For example, in the spans between houses and under bridges.
Each pipe weighs up to 20 tons and can be moved to a new location using a crane.
While OPod Tube House is just a project, a prototype has already been developed that gives an opportunity to see what the housing will look like inside.
The production of such an apartment will cost $ 15,000, and the cost of rent will be less than $ 400 per month. At the same time, the average rental price in the center of Hong Kong is $ 2000.
