Several online platforms are there that offer many types of security features simply to secure or protect their users’ privacy. However, the social media giant Facebook always act in a different way from others. Hence, now it wants to go a little further and will offer its users a shield for their profile photos.

The social network giant Facebook has introduced a series of changes in its software aimed at protecting the profile image of users so that it is not possible to copy or share it. This novelty is now available to social network users in India.

This Facebook initiative applies to both the desktop version of the social network and the application for mobile devices. It can be activated from the settings menu or through a notification that is shown in the News Feed with the option to enable the “Profile Picture Guard”.

Among the main added features, one thanks to which other users will not be able to download the profile image nor share or send it in a message, as explained by Facebook through an official statement. To make it even harder for other users to get the profile images, the social network has introduced specific modifications to its application for Android devices that will prevent users from taking screenshots of these photos as well.

In addition to this, the social network giant Facebook will not allow users to be tagged in profile photos of others who are not friends to protect the privacy of users. The social network has developed the new measures in conjunction with security organizations from India.

As an additional protective measure, Facebook will start tagging profile photos with details like a frame around the image and a blue shield. According to the social network, this type of measures contributes to reducing the number of times a capturing of the main image is taken by up to 75%.

Facebook news has already come into effect in India since last Wednesday, as the social network had experienced particularly serious privacy issues in the Asian country. The company of Mark Zuckerberg has announced its intention to extend the initiative also to other countries as well.
