Microsoft releases Surface firmware updates to address CPU vulnerabilities
The company issued an emergency Windows 10 Update to address the CPU vulnerabilities that were disclosed recently.
The Verge discovered that Microsoft is now rolling out Surface firmware updates.
Microsoft is aware of a new publicly disclosed class of vulnerabilities referred to as “speculative execution side-channel attacks” that affects many modern processors and operating systems including Intel, AMD, and ARM.
From Microsoft
Microsoft explained in a support article which devices will receive that update. But the device must be running Windows 10 Creators or Fall Creators Update.
- Surface Pro 3
- Surface Pro 4
- Surface Studio
- Surface Pro Model 1796
- Surface Laptop
- Surface Pro with LTE Advanced
- Surface Book 2
Sadly, some of the last gen devices won't receive the update. There is currently no news on the Surface 3 for example.
In case your device is supported, keep an eye out for the firmware update, as it will be rolling out gradually.
