Its funny how life works, in the past, doctors were more like beings to avoid than saviour. Hospitals had a reputation for being places where one went to die, and for a long time, people relied on trial and error to treat themselves.

One thing that has marked human evolution, is technological advancement. From the invention and understanding of chemistry, to the invention of the internet and cat memes, technology has improved our way of life extensively.

Today, we look at some of the worlds changing inventions and how it has made us humans different.

Automobiles!!

Automobile: In my ''importance of the human body super series'' I spoke about how man(the concept) is an animal among many, the basic needs of all animals still with us, the need for food, the need for survival, and the need to migrate.

Humans have always left where they were born for centuries, to settle down in another area of greener pasture.

Before the invention of cars, and domestication of horses, man had to walk from one place to another, slowly but surely, we learnt the process of animal domestication and the ability to move from one place to another grew.

These days though, cars, bikes, trains, etc dominate the streets. The earth and its forests,bushes have given way for the construction of road networks, bridges, train tracks.

Communication!!

Communication: I was born in the era where writing letters, and pen pals were the reigning thing. Though I wasn’t opportune to be there, but there was an era where the fastest means of communication was by attaching a message to a bird and then sending it off on the errand.

In Nigeria,before the invention of phones, computers and the internet, before megaphones were in vogue, and before speakers were wide spread,special people designated as ‘’town cryers’’ to pass messages round the village. These were the days of our forefathers, like my mama would often say.

These days though, kids have no idea what a towncryer looks like, every tom, dick and harry has a phone now, communication between people continents apart can be done instantly, exactly the way I am making this post.

Medicine!!

Medicine: Ahh, just like my introduction said,doctors have perhaps undergone the greatest change in perception in all these years. From being looked at with disdain,to being called saviours of the modern world. Doctors are now considered the universal symbol of heroism in this our world without superpowers.

While the main concept of trial and error remain, the successful trials of the past, have given rise to important medical discoveries, and cures of various ailments .

From being recommended to lick the bark of a certain tree to treat malaria, we now have medicines and procedures that are 90% sure to cure you and indeed anyone of the malaria disease.

Technology is advancing, we are now on the ride of cryptocurrency, just like the invention of the computer, crypto’s will bring about a new era of financial responsibility and stability.
